day 85: heart shaped rocks

Military 30-day Photo Challenge Day 9: Post a pic of your favorite souvenir your Marine has brought back for you from a deployment

If you've followed by blog for a while, you are well aware of ASC's uncanny ability to find rare things in the middle of common, everyday things, like 4-leaf clovers. The same is true of heart-shaped rocks.

During an Iraq deployment (um....sometimes, they kind of run together in my memory. mostly certain it was the second one in '08-'09, but I could be wrong), ASC was trodding along in the desert sand when this large, black, lone stone caught his eye. The perfect shape of a heart. He carried it in his pocket from that day forward, a reminder of who he loved left at home, and then gave me the rock when he finally arrived home.

(the other two smaller rocks didn't come from any foreign country but right here on our native soil. no ultra special stories behind them, only the fact that they came from someone uber special.)
