day 6: a bunch of lucky ducks

Aaron has the uncanny ability to gaze down at a lawn of green grass and almost instantaneously spot a four-leaf clover. And another. And another. I have never in my life found one. Even the times that Aaron has tried to help and showed me the general area to search in (with about a 6-inch circumference), and yet to no avail. This pic is of all the four-leaf clovers he has found just in the past 2 years or so, and only the ones that I have saved, pressed, and kept in an envelope; many of them got pitched after he'd throw them on the kitchen table after coming inside.

Kennedy has inherited this unnatural ability, much to her delight. Tonight she came in from getting the dog fresh water, and she proudly yelled, "Mom! I found the first four-leaf clovers of the year, and Dad would be so proud!"
Sure enough, she did.
Reagan was standing by, and immediately got a pouty look on her face. "I never get to find any of those. I'm no good at it!" Poor thing is just like her momma. But, instead of informing her of her inherited downfalls, I encouraged her to go outside and look, just to try.

Sure enough, she reappeared a few minutes later, with a hand in the air for a high-five for the four-leafed treasure she found:
If a four-leaf clover brings good luck, then we are some very lucky ducks.

In fact, www.fourleafclover.com cites that "finding a real four-leaf clover is still a rare occurrence". As far back as 1620, people regarded these "rare" foilage as a good omen.

However, we've got something far better than luck on our side.

The same website also explains the Irish tradition for the meaning of each leaf. On a regular clover, each leaf represents the Trinity--God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. When a clover is found with the fourth leaf (which, by the way, is usually smaller than the other three), it represents God's grace. That, then makes perfect sense for why we've got so much of God's grace heaped upon us. :)
