day 158: picassos in training

The girls have waited a long time for this.
I bought these Living Social deals months ago.
Finally, today was the day.
Cookies and Canvas.
An afternoon of painting.
Like a real ar-teest.

McK was goofy.
R was excited.
K was in a mood.

Step 1: the outlines.
Scared the girls a little.
They didn't think it looked right.
Little did they know....
in painting, as in life,
most mistakes can be painted over,
(but it's not always easy).

Step 2: fill in the sand.
Getting just the right, satisfying color mixed for sand was tedious.

The water required some blending.
Note that K is still in her funk.

Notice McK is still doing her goofy thing.
Still.

Next, the star fish.
Like the sand, mixing the perfect star fish-y color was a task.

I promise, I only helped a little.
Really, it was minimal.
I only helped fix mistakes when she asked.
Which was twice.

Did I mention it got just a tad bit messy?

Pause for the paint to dry.
And for a pic.
And some snacks,
like Oreos
and Teddy Grahams.
And K to finally be sorta happy again.

She even added the detail to her star fish all on her own.
And I think she got just the right color of sand.
Darker, like real sand when it's wet.

Voila.
Star fish in the sand.
A genuine masterpiece
(so is the painting).

And another work of art.
Don't you love how they're based on the same sample,
yet they're each so different?
I do.

Now this one is one of a kind.
Really.
(somehow, when I wasn't looking,
she added red dots to the star fish.
like bright red dots.
and fairly big ones at that.
good thing her momma took a
painting class here not long ago
and knew how to fix it.)
