day 129: WV, oh how I loathe thee
Such is the case tonight. West Virginia and I have a hate-love relationship. Hate driving thru it, love to see it disappearing in my rear view mirror. I don’t mean to be a hater, truly, but hear me on this: if, on a trip eastward, whatever setback that can happen will happen within WV state lines. Construction back-ups. Being forced to drive up, then down, a mountain on a dark and rainy night. Driving thru the mountains, period. Crazy Charleston traffic. People almost hitting me. And tonight: bad storms that knock out all the power so that we’re forced to stay in a hotel with no swimming pool, but luckily, electricity. See what I mean? I’ll like WV once I’m out of here…..okay, not really.
But, despite the dislike, tonight’s WV miles also brought two laugh-until-I-cry moments. Our fav Black Eyed Peas were on, loud, and I check out the dance party in progress in the back seat. Except K is sporting a Green Lantern mask and bracelet from her kids meal at Subway. Which of course, words don’t do justice here, but at 70 mph, no pic was to be had. Take my words for it: gut-wrenching hilarity. Then, at almost-dark, post-rain, I hear McK shout: “Mom!! Drive faster!! I see a volcano ‘bout to explode!” No worries. Just some fog hanging ‘round the top of a mountain. J
