day 209: ready for 5

Yesterday I went to the grocery store.
Via text, the Gunny said there was nothing he really wanted.

But goodness sakes, the grocery bill was hefty.....thanks to a homecoming open house and soon feeding a grown man who isn't usually okay with just mac and cheese or ramen noodles.

Today, via text, the Gunny made his requests.

Triscuits, a homemade cheesecake, bacon, pineapple, mayonnaise, and beer.

(mayo? I've never known him to like mayo. so I asked. bacon and mayo sandwich, duh.)

(you ever wonder what foods you'd miss after being away from regular home cooking for a whole year? see above.)

Only because I love him tremendously and miss him extremely did I go, once again, entourage on my heels, to the grocery store.

Lo and behold, a celebratory cookie cake wound up in my cart. It was on clearance. Purely justified.

sigh

We're almost there.
Almost done.

Again, it's hard to put into words how this feels.
A bunch of Christmas Eves rolled into one.
A handful of leaving-on-vacation-eves at the same time.

Whatever it is, the anticipation is rising.
The yard sign is ready.
The bed sheet sign is painted.
The outfits are picked out.

We're ready
(have been)
